My tag line would be that this is a city restaurant in the middle of Door County, and by that I mean the menu isn't just pizza and burgers. The decor is nice and I found the wait staff to be very attentive and friendly. My wife and I both found the food to be good. If you're looking for a nice dinner in Door County you can't really go wrong.

We haven't been here in a long time but after finding Kristofers closed on a Tuesday night we kept walking and found ourselves at the Mission. We got an outside table on a beautiful night in August. I highly recommend sitting outside! We were just in the mood for small plates so we tried a lot of things and they were all terrific. We started with the lobster ravioli which was fabulous on a pillow of bechamel. The aritisan cheese plate was also great. We both had the wedge salad, chipotle shrimp and bruschetta. I now crave their chipotle shrimp. We also enjoyed some great wine. My only complaint lies therein. We were familiar with many things on their wine list as well as their prices. Do they have to charge more than 3 times what I could buy the bottle for myself? Yeeeesh. I just think people would buy more wine if the mark up wasn't so crazy. Service was exceptional. Our waitress was well versed on the menu and the wine list and when we had a question that she couldn't answer their wine purchaser came right to our table. A separate water and bussing staff kept our table cleared and well hydrated without feeling rushed. Bravo Mission Grille we will be back for your mid week pre-fix dinner for $28 - sounds like a deal.

I thought this place was going to be amazing as are the reviews of the place. My ravioli was dry (asparagus sauce). The salad with goat cheese was okay...drenched with dressing. The chicken and pasta combo was good, but overpriced. Nice place. But I guess my expectations were too high. Compared to the rest of the recommended restaurants I tried in Door County, this was the best quality food...just on the blander side.

My boyfriend and I had my birthday dinner here. We both enjoyed our food and the atmosphere is perfect for a romantic dinner. The hostess and server were both very friendly and attentive. My boyfriend had previously been here a few times with his family, but this was my first visit and I would definitely go back. They have a really nice indoor/outdoor patio area with lots of windows. I would recommend sitting out on this patio area because the rest of the restaurant is very dark and hard to see.

Overall, we were very pleased. We went for supper on a Saturday night and enjoyed excellent service and food. I had the best lamb shanks I've had in a long time. Fr Onion soup wasn't mind blowingly salty; hit the spot. My wife had lobster bisque and penne pasta and was very pleased with both. Went back the next morning for brunch and were very pleased with the breakfast portion but thought the dessert bar was nothing special. Don't go for the views. I see some very mixed reviews but we are definitely both in the thumbs up category.

Amazing atmosphere. The way this place is decorated is great. The food was awesome.

This place was very mediocre, definitely failed to meet my expectations. The "sushi grade" tuna tataki tasted like something you would get at some random $3 sushi joint. The halibut was overcooked. Service seemed average. Skip it.

In the past, The Mission Grille has been our favorite place for dinner on the Door. This visit, we had our daughter with us and wanted to treat her to something special. We had not made reservations this Saturday night, and saw all the crowded parking lots at other restaurants on our way there from Fish Creek, so called to see if they could take us. They said yes, and when we arrived, they sat us right away. We ordered drinks, they brought them, and we ordered our meals. We had to wait at least 30 mins for the soup and salad to arrive. The Lobster Bisque was barely warm, and there was very little lobster in it. The wedge salad was good, but neither the soup nor the salad should have taken 30 mins to make and bring to the table. The restaurant was no where near full at the time. They brought out the main courses without removing our dishes from the starters. My wife had ordered the crab cakes and scallops starters as her meal, and my daughter and I had ordered the crab cake entre. My wife got 2 for $12 and we got 3 for $26. They were small, with little or no detectable crab. I'm from the East coast, and probably have high expectations of what crab cakes should taste like, but these were disappointing. Furthermore, adding one crab cake and some green beans and mashed sweet potatoes does not justify more than doubling the price. Her scallops were cold and undercooked. When the waitress inquired if everything was okay and I responded that we were less than pleased, she did nothing about it. It was a very disappointing evening, especially because we wanted to treat our daughter to some special. It will be a long time before we go back.

This place deserves 5 stars. I had an outstanding Filet Mignon with Bordelaise Sauce but the highlight was the crab cake which you can order for 3 bucks more. I know crab cake and Filet Mignon usually don't go well together but these two were born to be served on the same plate! Phenomenal place. When you book your table, ask for a table by the window. We stayed in a room surrounded by glass but I realized that there was another one in the back that wasn't nearly as nice.

Loved this on the first visit, but the quality of the the food seemed to have gone in October 2006. The drinks, however, are original and a lot of fun. I will give it one more try.

Very disapointing. We went to this restaurant because of its Wine Spectator award. It was terrible. My husbands fish was very fishy and bland. I order the pasta carbonara with shrimp. The sauce was thick and boring. Tasted like they were using a rue. The shrimp were small. I expected more from a $28 dollar pasta. Don't waste your money.

I used to really love this place, but after a Saturday night dinner during the pumpkin patch weekend, I am less inclined to return. One of the hostesses exhibited bizarre behavior as we waited to be seated, and didn't seem to want us there. The food was meh...it used to be better. Hopefully they get their act together soon. The guy at the bar makes excellent cocktails.

My wife and I went to Mission Grille for our anniversary, and very much enjoyed our meal for the most part. The ambiance and service (from Hans) were excellent, and I got the paella, which was absolutely delicious. We also shared the turtle cheesecake for dessert, which was very good, although be aware that the pecans have a bit of spice to them! I take away one star because my wife got the filet, and it was underwhelming, particularly for being their most expensive menu item. The meat was excellent and the inside was cooked perfectly, but the steak was too charred, the potatoes were mediocre, and the sauce was not very good. But on the whole we had a very good experience, and I would certainly go back.

After a poor experience 2 years ago, we decided to give Mission Grill another chance. We came in on a Friday night and the place was crowded due to a wedding but was advised the group was going out on the porch and it would be more quiet. It did quiet down and we had a much better experience this time. The food was great and our waitress was fantastic. This night they had an Old Fashion menu special and I ordered a Kentucky Old Fashion and it was perfect. After dinner, they have a tasty dessert menu and we especially like the warm berry cobbler with ice cream.

It was the family's 50th Anniversary dinner here this weekend. We were taken care of very well. Everything from simple things like the water glasses always being filled to providing the cake cutting, and reserving a special area for all 36 of us to sit comfortably while keeping the atmosphere comfortable by keeping the windows open to let in a cool breeze. The food was top notch. I had the pork shank with mashed potatoes and veggies....yum. Tried the salmon which was also a yum, and I grade those extremely harsh. The next day we went back with a smaller group and were seated outside by the little water fall, another fantastic atmosphere and great service. This time I had the bruschetta, ribs and lobster bisque which were all average but I tried the ribeye which was delish! Great place for a fancy, white tablecloth dinner. Highly recommend.

If i could leave negative stars I would... 1/2 the tables empty we sat at the table for 2 hours! We ordered drinks got sick of waiting i went to the bar and ordered my own! Every table out on the patio complaining of the same problem... wow and we live right down the street. Absolutely certain i will not walk there again.

We ate here on our most recent trip to Door County, and I have to say I was not impressed. I have been wanting to try the Mission Grille for several years because it seemed like a nice place. The atmosphere is undoubtably the best part of the restaurant. Our server was nice, but struggled with any recommendations. We chose to try the bruschetta because our server said it had some heat to it, it was okay. My husband had the linguini with meatballs which were stuffed with Boursin cheese. They were good, but nothing out of this world. I had the top sirloin with blue cheese butter. I ordered it medium rare, and it was tough and chewy. All in all, I will most likely not be returning to the Mission Grille during our future trips to Door County.

My family and I have dined at the Mission Grille several times throughout our vacation this year and we've been delighted with the food, atmosphere, and service every time. The decor inside is lovely and the patio is a beautiful place to enjoy a meal. I'd be hard-pressed to tell you what the best menu items were, it was all so delicious! Some of the stand-outs were: Appetizers - the ceviche (with shrimp and avocado), the bruschetta, and the crab cakes; Entrees: Chilean sea bass (a nightly special), the pork tenderloin and the filet mignon; my daughters love the lobster bisque and the gourmet mac and cheese. They have a full-service bar with fantastic drink specials, and the service staff were knowledgeable and attentive. If you are ever in Door County make sure you stop here for a meal - but be warned, you may not want to eat anywhere else after you do!

We chose this place for our anniversary dinner. It was all that we expected. They have a new chef and he had several entrees with unigue twist. The Halibut with strawberry and advocato was excellent. The penne pasta with shrimp and capers, mushroom and tomato was delish. Ask for Jaden, the service was excellent. Nice wine list.

Very disappointing! I made reservations so we did not have a wait and the patio setting was lovely. However the service was poor and food horrible! Our waiter took our drink order and then forgot that we hadn't ordered food. When we finally asked if we could order he told us of no specials and just simply said, "oh I thought you'd ordered?" I ordered the steak with bacon & Gorgonzola cream sauce. I ordered it medium. It was so rare & squishy I could barely stick a fork in it-it just squished as the neat was so rare that it was almost purple/maroon!! I set my plate aside on the tables edge so that I could send it back but the waiter never came back to check on us for 30 minutes when he finally came asking if we'd like boxes. I told him no, that it was too rare & I was unable to eat it and his reply was "you should've flagged me down." No!! You should've done your job and checked on us. No drink refills, no checking to see if we were ok or needed anything. He proceeded to tell us he'd see what he could do, but just returned with the check. No mention of desserts, no discounts, no apology! Not what I would expect for $35+ per plate. My husband ordered a filet and his was also grossly under cooked. Side note, the Saturday night special was Prime Rib and they ran out by 7pm!! The table next to us ordered this and the waiter had to come back and ask them to choose something else but told them he couldn't offer any substitutes or discounts.

We Were not greeted exceptionally, but the food took us over. The mushroom soup was great along with fish taxis and an avocado sandwich. Sent us the wrong meal and corrected with a glass of wine. Then the triple dessert which was gift of yelp included creme brûlée berry cobbler and brownie with caramel. Beautiful outdoor seating. Will return.

Amid a sea of "bar-dining" that I experienced on my recent trip to Door County, Mission Grille stood out as something different. We stopped in after a long day of hiking and sight seeing, and immediately ordered drinks. I got a Wisconsin classic- a brandy Old Fashioned (Sweet). My drink arrived to me perfectly muddled, and plenty strong. Our waiter was pleasant and extremely polite and formal. For a starter, we ordered the Maryland Blue Crab Risotto Cakes. The use of risotto to bind the crab cakes, as opposed to the more traditional breadcrumbs was a tasty surprise. It rendered the final product pleasantly chewy...almost Al dente. There was plenty of crab included as well, and the cakes tasted buttery and flavorful. It was my favorite part of the entire meal. After the positive start, I was in the mood for even more seafood, while my husband was craving a reprieve from the heavy fare of Northern WI. He got the BLT entree salad, and I chose the "Better than British" fish and chips. He thought his salad was tasty, but it was an extra $6 to add chicken to it, which we thought was a little steep, so he got it without meat. It was iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, and bacon (and maybe some sort of cheese?)...just like a BLT. Again, it was tasty and light, just like he wanted, but had he been hungrier to begin with, he probably would have left unsatisfied. My fish and chips was really good, but pretty standard. They used cod, which tasted very fresh, and the fish was lightly battered in panko bread crumbs. The breading arrived crisp, but the oil it was cooked in may have been slightly too cool, as the fish soon became a little greasy. It was still delish though, and it was served with some sort of awesome spiced-up tartar sauce, which was perfect for dipping my fries in. Also, the waiter forgot our bread basket, and only brought it out when I asked about it seconds before the entrees arrived. He apologized, but we didn't really get to enjoy the bread before our meal as I would have liked. All-in-all, the Mission Grille offered a pretty solid four-star experience and it was definitely the "fanciest" restaurant I visited while in Door County. It might have been 5 stars had the food been slightly more imaginative or better executed. If I was in Sister Bay again, I'd definitely give them another shot.

My initial impression of this place was really good, but by the beginning of my second hour it had dwindled. We stopped in here for dinner and sat on the patio, which was lovely. The bread was delicious, the soup was delicious, the service was pretty good. But we were with my one year old. They were awesome to bring out his (really delicious) Mac and cheese early, but then we waited... And waited... And waited some more for our entrées. Sadly, that wait didn't mean we had super fresh and delicious food because of the wait. My fish tasted like it was under a warmer for a long time, because it was soggy. My husband ordered a tuna special and it was served cold- which could have been because it was rare, but his sides were all cold too. We would have complained but didn't want to spend another hour waiting for something better!

I have been here several times including last night. I have never had a bad meal here. Usually I get a steak but last night I had the scallop and shrimp linguine. It was excellent with the scallops done perfectly. The wine selection at the Mission is fantastic. Probably the best in Door County. This place is ideal for a romantic dinner, or just for catching up with old friends.

This place was recommended to us by a friend and it did not disappoint. Lovely decor, especially the patio. The service was prompt and friendly. They were nice enough to seat us on the patio less than an hour before closing. There was a flash rainstorm while we were working on the bread, so they had us come inside and set up a new table for us. The spicy cavatappi with shrimp was excellent. Very flavorful and nicely presented. The Great Lakes walleye was alright, nothing to write home about. The breading was rather heavy and the vegetables were limited. It is very pricey, probably one of the most expensive places to eat in Sister Bay. That being said, it is still a great place to spend an evening on your trip to Door County!

We came here back in late May to celebrate my parent's 30 year wedding anniversary. I have been meaning to review this place for a while, so here it goes. Service was fantastic, food was fantastic, and overall atmosphere was fantastic. My father is a meat and potatoes kind of guy, so it was difficult making a decision for the big anniversary dinner. We were all nervous he would be put off by anything too fancy, but wanted my mother to enjoy herself at a nice restaurant while we were in Door County. Mission Grille exceeded all of our expectations in that we were more than comfortable. Our waiter was extremely helpful with the menu and gave us plenty of time to determine our orders. Prices weren't bad either. We will make sure to return here on our next trip!

Went to mission grill for our anniversary dinner this past weekend. The decor in the restaurant is beautiful - unfortunately we didn't realize until we were leaving because we sat outside. No big deal. Food was great - the duck was fantastic. Staff was great - we were given a free dessert for our anniversary. Only downfall was price - while the food and service were good it wasn't quite good enough to justify the price tag. Seeing that everything up there is a little pricey I would go back.

After being contacted by the owner after our disappointing 2nd Anniversary dinner, we tried this place again and I am so glad we did! The hostess asked us our preference of sitting at a table looking out into the garden or at the old pews. We got a beautiful table overlooking the garden. Our server suggested a bottle of wine that was delicious. We had the apple goat cheese salad, which was so refreshing and good. For the entrees I had the filet and my husband had the prime rib - both were perfectly cooked. We had the berry cobbler for dessert. I am glad we tried this place again. I will return here for a special occasion dinner as the prices are still very high.

We had a very nice experience at the Mission Grille. The waitress was attentive.....the drinks were great (brandy old fashions had fruit muddled in the glass versus a mix), and our meals were cooked to perfection. The staff was friendly and made us feel welcomed. The only criticism I would have is the closed patio room we were in was a little chilly as a draft would come in when people entered the building.....I would ask for a table in the interior on colder days. The building is very unique. Worth trying!

We went to this restaurant years ago when we were in town on a winter weekend getaway and absolutely loved it. So when we returned to Door County for our anniversary, we planned our Saturday around dinner at Mission Grille. I really wish we hadn't. If I could give this place negative stars, I would. We waited about an hour for our food, an hour in which our waitress barely checked on us. When my filet mignon arrived, it was overdone and chewy. The mashed potatoes on both my and my husband's plates were dry, crumbly, and tasted like cardboard. Given what the entrees cost and how long we waited, and of course our prior experience with this restaurant, this didn't seem right. We had to flag down another waitress to get ours to pay attention to us. When she did come, at least she was apologetic--she said she thought the steak had been left on too long, and that the kitchen wasn't having a good night. Not a good sign when the servers seem frustrated with the kitchen staff. My replacement order was at least better--the potatoes tasted fresh and the BBQ chicken was good, and it only took another 20 minutes. However, by this point, it was nearly black on the patio it was so dark, and the mosquitoes were biting. It was also getting chilly because of the wind. Our waitress said that my meal wouldn't be on the check, which was appropriate, but the manager never bothered to even talk to us. I'm sorry, but if you screw up twice--once with the hour-long wait and once with a $40 plate--you send the manager out to the table to talk to the customers. The fact that no one seemed to care about our lousy experience really frosts me. Because our meal took so long, we ran into traffic from the fireworks festival a little further south, and just now got back to our hotel. We have to get up early to get back home. So...thanks, Mission Grille, for ruining our anniversary dinner and evening.

The scallops were the best I've had and the duck was superb. The linguini with stuffed meatballs was also delicious and the wait staff was attentive and able to make good recommendations (our waiter James was witty and personable). Definitely a spot to come back to!

We were here 10 years ago and everything was awesome! Celebrated our 28th anniversary and came back to see if it was still as good, It was!! Crab cakes , flour less chocolate cake, shrimp and scallop pasta and apple and gist cheese salad all awesome! We'll worth it!

The Food was good, the atmosphere was interesting too. We've gone to Door County for years and were trying to try out some "new to us" restaurants this time. We were pleasantly surprised with the food at Mission Grille. It was good food but I always find it weird when places only serve RC products for non-alcoholic beverage options (not Coke or Pepsi). RC is just not as good--and they were not the only restaurant in Door County that did this... The space is pretty unusual as it has stained glass and used to be a church/mission so you can see the history and additions/changes they've done over the years. Overall a good spot for dinner.

We went to the Mission Grille in Sister Bay, Wi for dinner last night. The thing that brought us there was many restaurants had closed for the season and we noticed this place was open. The building used to be a church, and the choir loft and some of the windows were still there. The restaurant itself is lovely. I was surprised by the high prices of the place, especially since it was off season and the restaurant was pretty empty for a Friday night at 7pm. The food was delicious. I had the chicken ca

Food here was awesome! Service was great and drinks fantastic. The only reason I did not give five stars is because this can be a pricey place to dine, especially for Door County. Entrees can run up to $42, wine to $300/bottle. That said, we ordered their "3 Course Prix Fixe Menu" For $25 Per Person. Included was a salad, prime rib with vegetables and potatoes, along with desert. The server cautioned us that this special consisted of smaller servings. If that's so, then there is no way we would have ever finished a regular serving size, as the special was plenty of food and we never would have considered it a "smaller servicing". This is offered Sunday through Thursday and is a fantastic value. We'll be back as long as they continue to offer this special.

This is my favorite "date night" restaurant in Door County. This is a "fine dining" type of restaurant, but it does not feel old-fashioned or stuffy. It's modern, even though it's set in what used to be a Catholic church, and the food is creative and somewhat trendy. There is a very good wine list. The atmosphere is warm and romantic; you can dine indoors or on the patio or screened porch. As lovely as the surroundings are, the food is the real draw. I've never had a bad meal here, nor poor service. The servers are all well-trained and professional, yet friendly. The salad with sliced pears and goat cheese is one of my favorite starters. Steaks, seafood and chicken are all very good, and there are options for vegetarians. The menu offerings don't fit into one category; there is a fair number of Italian dishes on the menu, but there are also other types of food. I think there's something for everyone. This isn't a cheap place to eat, though; entrees range from $18-$30 or so. Desserts are wonderful; one of my favorites is the creme brulee with fresh berries. Mission Grille is a lovely experience for a romantic date night, couples night or for a group of friends. It's not a place to bring kids. You don't have to dress up to come here, but I'd wear something "casually dressy," if that makes any sense. You could wear jeans here, but I would not show up looking scruffy or wearing jeans shorts or a tank top.

We ended our "Door County Christmas" trip with a Christmas Eve dinner at the"Mission Grille". Very yummy, great service, beautiful restaurant. The Lobster Bisque, Filet Mignon, and Berry Cobbler were phenomenal. Skip the flourless chocolate cake, too dry. We had a perfect view in the room with all the windows. On the pricey side. A definite "special occasion" place. The restaurant was transformed from an old country church (how appropriate for the occasion).

We were given this as an option for dinner by the hotel clerk. Loved it. It was a beautiful night and the patio is excellent. The wine was excellent and 3.00 buck Wednesday nights. Score !!!!! We were happy and enjoyed the night. It was a Door County favorite for us.

We decided to eat here given the many positive reviews of the Mission Grille both online and in the room notes from previous guests at our inn. The ambiance and decor of the restaurant were nice- it's an old converted Catholic church that they redecorated. The staff was attentive and service was good, even for the holiday weekend. The wine list is extensive and has options from $$-$$$$, but unfortunately we went for one of their recommendations on the menu and I wasn't impressed. Again, my personal choice... The food quality was good but not excellent. The salad seemed a little over dressed, the French onion soup not as savory as I would expect. My wife enjoyed the lobster bisque and mushroom ravioli. I enjoyed the duck breast in port wine reduction. As others mentioned, the flour less chocolate cake was quite dry and would be a pass. Again, the food isn't bad but I don't feel the quality lived up to the price.
